What is a Mini Boob Job?

People often have different ideas in mind when it comes to Breast Enhancement Surgery and the size and style of implants used to achieve the desired result.

We have noticed, however, a growing trend among some women who prefer a slightly smaller breast implant size than what we’ve typically seen in the past. This is, of course, a ‘Mini Boob Job’ or ‘Mini Breast Augmentation’ procedure.

So, what is this ‘new’ procedure?

A Mini Boob Job involves the use of smaller implants, typically under 275 cc.

  • Size of implants used in Mini Boob Job: Between 150 cc and 275 cc.
  • Size of implants used in standard Breast Augmentation: Typically between 275 cc and 400 cc.

The procedure itself is usually similar to a traditional Breast Augmentation; the primary differences might include (a) implant size,  (b) type of implant and (c) positioning of the implant/pocket size.

Using smaller breast implants is not for everyone, and on some frames may not make a noticeable difference. With that in mind, less is often more for some women’s bodies. A bit of cleavage, to some women, is better than none and a significant increase in breast volume may not be to everybody’s taste.

Why bother with a Breast Augmentation if you only want a small increase in size?

A Mini Boob Job generally appeals to those with a smaller or athletic frame, as well as professional athletes. The reason being, a more natural, subtle breast enhancement is more suitable for their body type and lifestyle.

This type of procedure is a great way to enhance your breasts by providing added volume, without a dramatic increase in size. It is particularly appealing to women who have only a small amount of natural breast (glandular) tissue. This is because a certain amount of natural breast tissue is required for a standard Breast Augmentation with larger implants, in order to help prevent rippling, stretching or ‘bottoming out’.

We all know that the bigger the implant, the higher the risk of premature sagging or of bottoming out and other skin concerns. Therefore, smaller implants may have some advantages for women of a smaller size, or who have thin breast skin.

Will a Mini Boob Job achieve a more natural-looking result?

A smaller Breast Augmentation can provide a natural result for many women, not only those with a smaller frame. It will, however, depend on the person and their desired result.

Your Breast Surgeon will take into account many factors when suggesting the right procedure and implant size for your body shape. This may include your height, weight, physique, skin condition and desired surgical result.

The key to getting good results from Breast Augmentation surgery is choosing a qualified, experienced Specialist Plastic Surgeon who can help you to select the right size of breast implants for you.

Why smaller breast implants may be better for some women

As the saying goes, less can often be more, and when it comes to breast size, there is no exception.

Having less volume up top has benefits for many women.  Just ask anyone who’s undergone Breast Reduction Surgery about the physical pains and social concerns they experienced due to having too much volume – and breast weight – ‘up top’.

Larger breast implants aren’t always the answer for women with a petite or athletic body type who lack upper body curvature or breast volume. However, it is not uncommon for women with this kind of body composition to want a slightly fuller breast appearance.

A Mini Boob Job can, in these cases, be a good alternative. A smaller implant size can provide the cleavage of a Breast Augmentation, but in a way that still appears natural and balanced.
